In an effort to restore the skin cell renewal rate, skin care manufactures in recent years introduced a host of products that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), retinol, retinoic acid (know as Retin-A™ and Renova™).  Retinol and retinoic acid are known as “retinoids”. Clinical studies show these ingredients to be effective at increasing cell renewal rates. However, to achieve such an increase, it is necessary to use AHAs and retinoids in such high concentrations and at pH levels that are so low, many women experience significant skin irritation. What’s more, AHAs, and retinoids are known to increase the skin’s sensitivity to the sun. Studies have shown that after continual AHA use, sun-related reddening and cellular damage increased. The FDA is considering warning labels for sun sensitivity for AHAs and retinol. Warnings already exsit for retinoic acid.

Our proprietary Rejuven-X Anti-Aging Complex is a natural exfoliator that uses components found in the skin, unlike alpha hydroxy acids and retinol. What’s more, Rejuven-X is effective at restoring skin cell renewal rates at normal skin pH levels that don’t irritate the skin.

Clinical studies have shown that this anti-aging complex: 1) improves the cell renewal rate; 2) improves skin firmness; and 3) reduces fine lines and wrinkles.

Cell renewal

By using a scientific procedure called the dansyl chloride staining method, it is possible to assess how long it takes for skin cells to be born, mature and make their way from the base layers of skin to the top layer and slough off the skin surface.

The graph to the right compares the rate of skin cell renewal among mature women using lactic acid (an alpha hydroxyl acid) and mature women using the ingredients found in Rejuven-X. To help provide context, these data are shown in comparison to untreated mature women and young women.

In this study, a group of women with an average age of 67 were divided into three groups. One group received no treatment. Their average skin renewal rate was 24.1 days. The second group was treated with lactic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid. Their average skin renewal rate was 18 days. The third group was treated with Tasha & Co.’s anti-aging complex at normal skin pH levels and achieved a comparable skin renewal rate of 18.6 days. By comparison, a group of young women with an average age of 29 years had a skin renewal rate of 16.6 days. This shows that Rejuven-X helps skin to act as if it were 30 years younger.

Optimal skin pH levels are between 5.5 and 6.5. Alpha hydroxy acids, including lactic acid, are not effective at pH levels higher than 3.5, which is why they can cause irritation. Rejuven-X, Tasha & Co.’s proprietary anti-aging complex, is not pH dependent for its activity, meaning that it works at optimal skin pH levels, yet effectively and significantly accelerates the skin renewal cycle to a rate comparable to products using AHAs.

Skin Firmness

Skin firmness As we age, our skin becomes less firm. By using a scientific procedure called ballistometry, it is possible to measure both deep (dermal) and surface (epidermal) skin firmness. Ballistometric studies have shown that skin firmness drops about 40 percent between the ages of 25 and 65.

Rejuven-X, Tasha & Co.’s proprietary anti-aging complex, stimulates the production of collagen, the structural scaffolding of the skin.

Results show that after using the ingredients in Rejuven-X for one month, surface skin firmness (right) increases 22.6%. Firmness increases to 27.4% after three months.

The results for deep skin firmness (left) are also impressive, with a 12.6% increase in deep skin firmness after one month, and a 55% increase after three months.

Skin Lines & Wrinkles

Using a combination of visual assessments of superficial facial lines and computer imaging analysis of silicon replicas taken from the subjects’ faces, it is possible to grade skin lines and wrinkles.

Results of the visual assessment show that after using the anti-aging complex used in the Tasha & Co. product line for one month, there was a 32% improvement in lines and wrinkles. This increased to 57% improvement after three months. Reduction in wrinkle depth of 33% after one month and 55% after three months was also recorded.
